I've wanted to do that project for years! I've collected and saved all the old issues of ME which had references to that project in it. EXTENDING THE CAPABILITIES OF THE JACOBS GEAR HOBBER Many builders of a Jacobs-type gear hobber would like to cut more complex gears. No Tom its just a simple back and forward machine I suppose adding a lifter for the back stroke wouldnt be too difficult but I was in a hurry to get some stuff cut so went for simplicity.

Chase project is a series of related jobs and tasks which are focused on. The lifter itself is quite simple if your interested. Another method of manufacturing gear is the gear hobbing method. Very nice can it raise as it goes forward or just slide back and forth? I just bought one it's a great captain the lifter wasn't working right but after cleaning and new oil works fine. This is has been a bit more of a pain than I foresaw I tried a single pivot point for the drive and arm movement first and didnt like the results so I gave the both movements their own points and it works much better that way.
I decided that almost everything I am doing in the shop involves cutting various bits metal to size so I put the carousel on hold to make a power hacksaw. Sorry no detailed build pics just the (almost) finished machine.
